The Great Race for Education Raises $30,000+ for Scholarships

For the third year, over 500 people participated in The Great Race for Education; the area's largest scavenger hunt competition in an effort to raise money for Eastern Idaho Technical College student scholarships.

Generously sponsored by Snake River Landing, Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center and Mountain View Hospital, 24 teams of four solved clues and competed in challenges around downtown Idaho Falls. Team Areva took first place, community team "My 3 Stooges" took second place and the INL Pencil Pushers took third place. All three teams have supported the Great Race since its inaugural year in 2009. 

Due to the tremendous efforts of these teams, over $30,000 in scholarships will be awarded to EITC students for the 2012-2013 academic years. In 2011, over $13,000 in scholarships was awarded to deserving students of Eastern Idaho Technical College as a result of The Great Race 2010 fundraising. Overall, $179,000+ in scholarships was awarded to EITC students in 2011.

 "We are tremendously grateful for the support we have received for this event. Thanks to the teamwork of and partnership with dozens of local businesses and donors, more than $30,000 in scholarships will be awarded to EITC students in the next academic year. These hardworking scholarship recipients will be the future leaders of our community and we are proud that so many individuals have set an example of philanthropic giving. Our scholarship students are extremely grateful for the gift of education," says EITC Foundation Executive Director Michelle Ziel. 

Scholarships are oftentimes the “help up” that a student needs to complete their goals and develop a career in a field where they can best utilize their skills. “My EITC scholarship has given me the opportunity to pursue my educational dreams and has helped me develop my talents in metal works,” says recent welding technology graduate Skylar Jenkins.

The Great Race for Education occurs every year on the third Friday of July and is headquartered at Snake River Landing.
