Eastern Idaho Technical College Foundation Provides Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars in Scholarship Money

The Eastern Idaho Technical College Foundation will award 205 scholarships to deserving students attending Eastern Idaho Technical College at the Annual EITC Scholarship Ceremony on April 26, 2012 at the Red Lion Inn.  Students, family members, college officials and contributors will attend a scholarship ceremony awarding students more than $364,400 in scholarships. 

The EITC Foundation will also award its annual awards to the following individuals and companies:

Contributors of the Year: Harold and Enid Davis

Corporate Partner of the Year: Parkwood Meadows

EITC Staff Member of the Year: Ginger Reid, Counselor in The Center for New Directions

EITC Faculty of the Year: Gina Armer, Business Technologies Instructor

Michelle Ziel, Foundation Executive Director explains, “This ceremony really highlights the amazing generosity of our community.  Many of these students would not be able to go onto higher education if it weren’t for the help of scholarships. We have tremendously generous donors who we cannot thank enough.”

Register Now for Summer Science Camp

Registration Open for East Idaho’s Largest Summer Science Camp

 

Eastern Idaho Technical College (EITC) is now accepting registration for its Summer Camp 2012 program designed to provide elementary school students with a unique opportunity to explore the wonders of mathematics, science, and technology.                                                                                                                            

Program sponsors from EITC, Idaho National Laboratory (INL), Cargill, Leland D. Beckman Foundation, and the Eastern Idaho Technical Foundation (EITCF) have shown their commitment to local education by contributing to the program and assisting EITC in educating our area youth.  

Summer Camps 2012 offers a series of four one-week programs available to children who have completed grades K-6.  Camps are offered in math, science, and technology beginning the weeks of June 11, 18, and July 9 and 6.  Camps will be available from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Children who have completed Kindergarten and first grade can register for “Extreme Weather,” “Dinosaurs,” and “Mr. Bear Mystery” classes. Those who have completed second and third grade can participate in “Life Science, Live it Up” “Chemistry in the Dark,” and “Fantastic Physical Science” classes.  Finally, those who have completed fourth thru sixth grade can participate in “What is Your Energy Level?” “What Does it Mean to be Green” and “Lego Robotics” classes.

EITC’s Summer Camp 2012 program costs $65 per camp.  Full scholarships are available for children on Medicaid or those receiving Title I funding. You can register your children today by calling 524-3000, extensions 3371 or 3344 or download a brochure HERE.

Nominate an EITC Alum to be in The Circle of 20 today!

Overview:

In celebration of 20 years of the Eastern Idaho Technical College Foundation, we are looking to honor distinguished alumni for their positive contributions to the community and their employer through service and leadership. 

Qualifications:

Any alum who has earned one of the following degrees or certificates is eligible to be nominated:

  • Associate of Applied Science Degrees

  • Advanced Technical Certificates

  • Technical Certificates (ESTEC, MOS, OFS, AAC, DTL, RDS, LGL)

  • Post-Secondary Technical Certificates (PTD)

Nominating Process:

Any qualified candidate can self-nominate through a Circle of 20 Application or can be nominated by someone else. Applications can be found here. Self-nominations are welcome!

Deadlines:

Applications will be available starting February 15, 2012 and will be accepted until April 15, 2012. Winners will be notified via phone and mail.

Award Process:

Completed applications will be processed by the EITC Foundation Board of Directors and will be chosen based upon the following criteria:

  • Has this candidate had an impact on the profession and/or workplace?

  • Has this candidate had an impact on the community in which he/she resides in?

  • In what ways have the candidate's achievements been truly extraordinary?

EITC Faculty Member Ken Erickson Wins Energy Award

The Partnership for Science & Technology announced the 2012 Energy Advocate Award Winners on January 23, 2012. These awardees are being honored for their committment to energy initiatives throughout our community. Eastern Idaho Technical College is proud that our Workforce Training & Community Education Manager Ken Erickson is the Energy Education Advocate award winner and will be celebrated at an awards luncheon on Feb. 21, 2012 at the Red Lion hotel.

Dr. Steve Albiston New EITC President in Jan. 2012

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE IDAHO STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION
 
An eastern Idaho native, graduate of the University of Idaho and a thirty-year employee of the institution will be the next president of Eastern Idaho Technical College (EITC).

Dr. Steven Albiston, PhD., the current Vice-President for Instruction and Student Affairs will assume the duties of president starting January 1, 2012. “I am truly thrilled to have been given this opportunity,” said Albiston. “I’m looking forward to working with everyone; all the students, faculty, staff and supporters who do so much in helping our students succeed.”

Albiston, who was born and raised in St. Anthony, graduated from South Fremont High School, holds a bachelor’s, masters and doctorate from the University of Idaho. He came to EITC in October of 1981 as an Admissions/Vocational Counselor. He has held a number of positions including Student Services Coordinator, Student Services Manager, Dean of Students, and most recently Vice-President for Instruction and Student Affairs.

“Steve impressed us,” said Emma Atchley of Ashton, member of the Idaho State Board of Education and chair of the EITC Presidential Search Committee. “We had a very strong pool of applicants and Steve consistently rose to the top of the list. We’re thrilled to have him leading this campus.”

The position became open when current EITC President Burton Waite announced his retirement in June 2011, effective December 31, 2011.

Christmas Basket Project Needs Turkeys!

Support the 34th annual Christmas Basket Project, a cooperative effort of St. Vincent de Paul, the Catholic community of Idaho Falls, the First Presbyterian Church with support of other community groups and businesses!
 
The goal is to help 450 families, including more than 1200 children. Each basket wil provide enough food for each family for a full turkey dinner plus another week's worth. Each child will receive gift purchased and wrapped specifically for them.
EITC is helping provide turkeys and would love your participation. Please bring a frozen turkey to EITC Cafeteria Monday thru Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. until December 9th and this turkey will help provide a hot meal to a family in need.
You may also donate to the purchasing of turkeys by making your check to EITC Foundation and bringing to the college or mailing it to 1600 S. 2500 E., Idaho Falls, ID 83401 marking the memo as "Turkey."
 
The program could also still used used and new bikes. Please take used bikes to Bill's Bike Shop on 8th Street in Idaho Falls for refurbishing and bring new bikes to St. Vincent de Paul.

2011 Annual EITC Fund Drive - Give Today

December 1st, kicks off the Annual EITC Fund Drive where the community is called to support their college and change the lives of families and generations to come through education. Currently, the EITC Foundation awards more than $160,000 in annual scholarships to EITC students, supports the EITC Summer Science Camp, hosts The Great Race for Education and supports dozens of community intiatives including Relay for Life, Breaking Boundaries, Michelle Kern Memorial Twilight 5k, Earth Day and more. Our goal is to raise $180,000 this holiday season.

Results of the Michelle Kern Memorial Twilight 5k

Community Turns Out for First Annual Michelle Kern Memorial Twilight 5K

The Eastern Idaho Technical College marketing student organization, Collegiate DECA, and the Eastern Idaho Technical College Foundation are pleased to announce that almost $6,000 was raised at the first annual Michelle Kern Memorial Twilight 5K. This event took place on October 14, 2011, beginning and ending on the Eastern Idaho Technical College campus, Michelle Kern’s alma mater.  

Proceeds from the Twilight 5K will be used to support the Eastern Idaho Technical College chapter of Collegiate DECA and also to create the Michelle Kern Memorial Scholarship for an Eastern Idaho Technical College student. 

The top male participants were as follows:

#1 – Andy Nelson at 18:10

#2 – Brandy Corgatelli at 18:45

#3 – Craig Borrenpohl at 21:05

The top female participants were as follows:

#1 – Heidi Olson at 22:00

#2 – Teresa Borrenpohl at 23:14

#3 – Marie Fager at 23:25


Michelle Kern was a 2011 graduate from EITC’s Business Technologies Marketing & Management Associate of Applied Science degree program and an officer in Collegiate DECA. Three days after graduating, Michelle, her sister Malinda, and Michelle’s two young sons, Jack and Gage were murdered in Michelle’s parents’ home. This tragedy was a great loss to family and friends, Eastern Idaho Technical College, and the entire Idaho Falls community.
